Lyrics

Come On In            © Rich Eilbert

1) Come on in, we need you
Come on in, we'll feed you
Come on, weary traveler, welcome home

Come on in, we like you
No one's gonna strike you
Come on, weary traveler, welcome home

BRIDGE 1
All those years of struggle
Wrapped up in the race
You-can forget your worries, settle down
All those years of fighting
Trying to set your place
Just forget your worries, settle down

2) Come on in, take your shoes off
Come on in, rub your blues off
Come on, weary traveler, welcome home

Come on in , you can stick around
Come on in, take a look around
Come on, weary traveler, welcome home

BRIDGE 2
Mi casa es su casa
That's the simple truth
Come on, weary traveler, settle down
Have a cup of coffee
Now you're feeling loose
Come on, weary traveler, settle down

Repeat Verse (1)

River Wash Away            © Rich Eilbert

1) The storm is out at sea
The sky's a sickly green
Leaves are hanging down
Not a creature to be seen

A single drop of rain
Splatters on my cheek
Clouds go streaming by
The air begins to speak

CHORUS
And the wind rushes on, rushes on thru the pouring rain
As for me I'm long gone, I won't be coming back again
The knife cuts close, cutting down to the bone
Let the river wash away, away, away, everything that I've known

2) My clothes are soaking wet
Water fills my boots
Branches float on by
Trees have toppled from their roots

Muddy water everywhere
My eyes can barely see
Million miles of nothing
Surrounding me

[CHORUS]

3) Six in the morning,
(They said) I had to leave my home
Got no transportation
Traveling alone

I've got no destination
Except for higher ground
I've got no expectation
That my body will be found

FINAL CHORUS
And the wind rushes on, rushes on thru the pouring rain
As for me I'm long gone, I won't be coming back again
The knife cuts close, cutting down to the bone
Let the river wash away, away, away
Everything away, away, away
Everything away, away, away
Everything I've known

Back From the War            © Rich Eilbert

1) I went out to a party
I went out to a party
There were pretty girls to be sure
But I don't chase those girls anymore
Since I came back from the war

2) I sat down at the table
I sat down at the table
There was tempting food to be sure
But I can't hold down food anymore
Since I came back from the war

3) I drove out to the airport
I drove out to the airport
There were fast jet planes to be sure
But I can't fly on planes anymore
Since I came back from the war

4) I tried to see my family
I tried to see my family
I love my wife and child to be sure
But I can't talk to them anymore
Since I came back from the war

BRIDGE
I can't sleep at night
I've lost my grip on wrong and right
Crimes that can never come to light
I've buried them deep inside

5) I went to see my father
I went to see my father
He's a drinking man to be sure
But he won't drink with me anymore
Since I came back from the war

[BRIDGE]

6) I thought I'd be a hero
I thought I'd be a hero
I was a tough talking guy to be sure
But I don't talk that tough anymore
Since I came back from the war

He’s a Physicist            © Rich Eilbert

) I tried dating a lawyer / But he was married to the firm
A doctor tried to kiss me once / But his bedside manner made me squirm
Maybe it's a matter of relativity
But I finally found a lover, with electricity
He's a physicist / And I can't resist, his spark
I was a pessimist / Now I'm happy as a quark

REFRAIN
When he turns on his strange charms
I drop like, a falling body in his arms
He's a physicist

2) I admit it's a paradox / I was the sexiest girl at school
Now I get aroused thinkin-bout atomic clocks / And the Heisenberg Uncertainty rule
He's a master of time and space
I orbit like an electron at a relativistic pace
He's a physicist / When I'm kissed I begin to swoon
No I can't resist / Like earth's gravitation on the moon

[REFRAIN]

3) He's among the super-bright / He'll theorize till it hurts-ya
His thoughts travel at the speed of light / While mine show greater inertia
I know that his love is true
Cause he can tell me, why the sky is blue
He's a physicist / Now my strings have all uncurled
We speak in gibberish / About a 10-dimensional world

[REFRAIN]

4) He can explain broken symmetry / And dark energy, of the cosmic ocean
But in bed he rocks me, there no gimmickry / It's just simple, harmonic motion
He locks on my wavelength over and over
The when we touch I go super-nova
He's a physicist / With charisma to spare
With a flick of the wrist / He proves E = mc2

[REFRAIN]
He's a physicist
He's a physicist
He's a physicist

Down on Your Luck            © Rich Eilbert

1) You thought you were a clever girl / Riding high, on top of the world
While your daddy pulled strings to ease your way
But that charmed life couldn't last / Now I see you're falling fast
And no one has a kindly word to say

2) Fancy dinners at the country club / While the rest of us ate lousy grub
You never thought to help or even call
You sold your old friends down the drain / Slid off the wire, well it's a shame
There ain't no safety net to break your fall

CHORUS
Nowhere / Nowhere for you to run to today
No one / No one to help you hide you away
No place to stay
You're out on your own / You've got no one to phone
This time it's your turn to pay
Down on your luck / Hey-hey

3) Recall the days back at school / We all thought you were cool
Dropped off in your chauffeured limousine
You never had to work too hard / Just had to flash your calling card
And everyone would treat you like a queen

4) You rose like cream while we just sank / You had a fortune in the bank
By the time that you were 23
Box seats at the palladium / Front row at the stadium
While the rest of us just watched it on TV

[CHORUS]

You're down on your luck / I hear you're really stuck
But it's not my problem anyway, hey-hey-hey

Going Back to LA            © Rich Eilbert

1) It's an April night and the chilly air
You're upstairs and I'm sleeping down here
I ain't got no one / I ain't got no one

I tried to be your man, but you wanted a boy
Can't hang around just to be your toy
I'm moving on / I'm moving on

CHORUS
Tomorrow morning I'll be on my way
There's nothing you could do that would make stay
I'm moving on

Got no reason to stick around
I'll be heading out for my hometown
Going back to LA

2) Tried to give you room, I tried to hold you tight
Nothing I would do ever worked out right
I ain't got no one / I ain't got no one

You want things your way and I want 'em mine
When we get together it's just a waste of time
I'm moving on / I'm moving on

[CHORUS]

3) Miss the warm weather and the open skies
Took me six long months to realize
I ain't got no one / I ain't got no one

Want to take in the sun by the ocean shore
So I'm packing my bags and I'm out the door
I'm moving on / I'm moving on

[CHORUS]

Now and Forever            © Rich Eilbert

1) You're the one who's here with me, at the closing of the day
You will still-be by my side, when my hair is turning gray
If you ask what I think of you, I have these words to say
Now and forever, I love you

CHORUS
I love you when the spring begins to call
Though winter and the shadow of the fall
But I love you most of all, in summertime

2) Sometimes you make me laugh, sometimes you make me cry
But you can always draw me in, with that sparkle in your eye
I have these words I'll say to you, I ask for no reply
Now and forever, I love you

[CHORUS]

3) Time passes quickly, how the years have flown
Like two trees standing side-by-side, together we have grown
You've become a part of me, now I can't live alone
Now and forever, I love you

[CHORUS] (x2)

Ocean of Sand            © Rich Eilbert

1) A madman's is in the tower / And he's got a gun
The innocents all scatter / See them duck and run
They run for cover

2) A crusader is in power / And he's itching for a fight
But you can't beat him head-on / SO you fade into the night
Waitin' to recover

3) It's a fact of life / (That) In a time of drought
Flies can kill a lion / They just wear him out
He has no cover

CHORUS
Empires crumble, castles fall
From an invisible hand
Jet fighters crash, tanks just stall
In an ocean of sand

4) Who's in the white house / And who calls the shots
Who ordered this war / And what were their plots
And what was their cover

5) I knew the deception / I saw the greed
I witnessed the torture / So I planted the seed
I was working undercover

6) The wall has a 1000 cracks / You can take a look inside
The rats scurry desperately / But they have no place to hide
Someone blew their cover

[CHORUS] (x2)

Whydah            © Rich Eilbert

1) In 1717 / I sailed the Whydah
With Black Sam Bellamy / Our captain sure
Communal pirates / In Bahaman waters
We took freely / Of Spanish treasure

2) The Whydah was a slaver / Before we seized it
Took the brig northward / To Cape Cod Bay
Where the captain's maiden / Maria Hallett
Watched and waited / On this April day

CHORUS
But there's no way / No way to keep warm
And there's no shelter / No shelter from the storm

3) A change of weather / Form the northeast
Brings rolls of thunder / And a fearsome gale
Our drunken pleasures / Come to an end
We fire the cannons / To defy the hail

4) The wind blows cold / And heavy on the deck
Snow in falling / On the sails
The captain calls / From high above
Hold your stations / Without fail

[CHORUS]

5) No sun is shining / Through the clouds
Icy waters / Down below
The breakers drag us / Near the shore
The Whydah is sinking / As we go slow

6) Southack brings me / Back to Boston
Where I am jailed / And held in chains
Reverend Mather / Defends for me
And I am spared / From being hanged

[CHORUS]

Roadblock            © Rich Eilbert

1) When I go to work today, I'm in a heated rush
Drive as fast as I can, I don't think too much
But those red tail lights before me, are forcing me to brake
Be stuck here for hours, there ain't no escape

CHORUS
Roadblock / It's a head shot
Tick tock/ Can't beat the clock
Roadblock / Traffic cop
I'm at a dead stop / Gonna blow my top

Hey-hey / Hey-hey-hey
Roadblock / Hey-hey-hey

2) Inch by inch stop and go, I turn up the radio
Grit my teeth bang the wheel, you can see just how I feel
I'm in a mood to kick and scream
Obscenities flowing at a constant stream

[CHORUS]

Hey-hey, hey-hey-hey

3) Flash the lights beep the horn, out-of-the-way I'm coming on
Flipping fingers in a rage, trapped inside this metal cage
Switch lanes to the left, I'm gonna give it a try
(But) Now the trucks on my right are passing by

[CHORUS]

Hey-hey / Hey-hey-hey
Roadblock / Gridlock
Great god / This is a parking lot
Hey-hey / Hey-hey-hey
Hey-hey / Hey-hey-hey
Roadblock / Hey-hey-hey
Roadblock / Hey-hey-hey

Hauling Ice            © Rich Eilbert

1) My name is Kostinec / I drive a big rig
Hauling that's my trade
I was dispatched / Out to Pennsylvania
20 tons of ice to move right away
I'd seen it in the news and magazines
Katrina had laid waste New Orleans
Without power, that ice meant saving lives
It seemed all-important that it arrives
So I charged up those hills ... in overdrive

2) Took just one day / To make Missouri
FEMA's staging ground
But I never unloaded / Cause I got new orders
Soon I was Montgomery bound
Alabama was just one day away
I'd make my drop, collect my pay
But this was not to be the final trip
Cause FEMA sent me on to Mississip'
So I headed out Route 80 ... and let her rip

CHORUS:
Hauling ice
I'm just trying to do what I can
I've been hauling ice
But there doesn't seem to be a master plan
And I can't believe that this ... is American

3) When I pulled up / At Fort Shelby
They said "Boy, whadda-ya doing here?"
"You've been rerouted / Up to Virginia."
FEMA's made that perfectly clear
Spent the week near Richmond with 9 guys
Revvin' up our engines, to cool the ice
We joked about collecting double pay
But not a man really wanted to stay
And New Orleans grew further away, ... with every passing day

[CHORUS]

4) Finally sent out / To Nebraska
A strange spot to unload
It's been four weeks / Of mindless highways
Five thousand miles on the road
FEMA says "You're done here. Go on home
Forget about those bastards / In the Superdome."
No I would not do this hauling again
Trading money for the dignity of men
And I can't believe this sham, ...is American

[CHORUS]
No this cannot be the work ... of the good Lord's hand

Small Crime            © Rich Eilbert

1) I am an outlaw on the run
Took a hotel towel just for fun
Now the sheriff's on my track
Guess there is no turning back
I got that towel in my sack

2) I nabbed soap bars, maybe two or three
I thought them items was for free
But on the back side of the door
In small print that I ignored
The hotel posted up the law (...torts you know)

3) Call me mean, call me bad
I stashed two pens and swiped a pad
I just can't mend my wicked ways
On business trips or getaways
I'm living proof that small crime pays
(...I've joined ranks with the Kenneth Lays, ...white collar crime)

4) In a bathroom bin I spied shampoo
Conditioner and hand cream too
My bag was over by the couch
I slid them in, I was no slouch
I even found room for the coffee pouch (...decaf that is)

5) I settled the bill, grabbed the keys to my car
But first a little mini-trip to the mini-bar
A can of nuts and a glass of wine
They went together mighty fine
Then out the door in record time

6) Rushed passed the clerk at the Marriott
"I enjoyed my stay, hey thanks a lot"
He dialed the cops, and made a frown
But ain't no way I'm goin' down
Know every back-road in this town (...and the highways too)

7) At the Marriott or Ramada Inn
They call it crime, but I call it sin
Either way they're bound to lose
Cause I got on my running shoes
And I'll take anything I choose (...even the booze)

REPEAT (1)

Building Seven Bridges            © Rich Eilbert

1) When first I saw you, you smiled at me
I knew we were meant to be
A connection so strong, I could do no wrong
I thought you belonged to me

2) Cursed like a poor fool, I grew disenchanted
And took you for granted, all day
Then one rainy night, we got in a fight
And I let you slip away

CHORUS
I’m building, seven bridges, back to you
  Number 1 is communication
  2’s our common destination
3 and 4 are the games and chores we do
Number 5 is the wealth of spirit
6 is for, the way we share it
7 is the love that makes us new
I’m building seven bridges back to you

BRIDGE
A single tether, won’t be enough
So I’m tying and I’m nailing
  I’m gluing and I’m stapling
Every kind of bond I can scrape up
Any ribbon that will reattach our love

3) I’m drawn to an old haunt, the all-night laundry
When who should walk through the door
I tell you I’m sorry, and I’ve been so worried
We both start crying, as the laundry’s drying
And hey, you’re smiling at me, once more

[CHORUS]
I’m building seven bridges, reinforcing stitches
I’m building seven bridges back to you

Do You See That Girl            © Rich Eilbert

1) Do you see that girl / Walking down the street
Do you see that girl / She’s the one I’d like to meet
Do you see that girl / See that girl

2) Do you see that girl / Curls hanging down her face
Do you see that girl / In black leather and white lace
Do you see that girl / See that girl

BRIDGE
She is just the one for me / Living out my fantasy
She’s the one I yearn, to take home
She the one that I adore / The one that I’ve been waiting for
Forever and a day, the time has come

3) I feel in love / As she sways with every step
I feel in love / She’s the one I can’t forget
I feel in love / Feel in love

4) Do you see that girl / A rosy blush upon her cheek
Do you see that girl / I’m gonna take another peek
Do you see that girl / See that girl

[BRIDGE]

REPEAT VERSE (1)
Do you see that girl / See that girl

Forgiveness            © Rich Eilbert

1) I’m driving east along the road
Where California meets Mexico
Out where the Gila River bends
In the desert land of the Indians

2) Yuma’s a town where no one stays
Not the new recruits at the army base
Not the wetbacks, they’re just passing through
And the migrant farmers work a week or two

3) I’ll leave too by the end of the week
I’ve got a daughter here, but we don’t speak
It’s been 3 years since she ran away
Three years since I’ve seen her face

CHORUS
Don’t let the flash of anger
  Blind you from tenderness
Open your heart, as I’ve opened mine
  To forgiveness, for-give-ness

4) It’s 110 even in the shade
And a cloud overhead, that’s a lucky break
It’s-a back-breaking job out in the fields
Where your fingers bleed and your skin gets peeled

5) Three years ago you took off in a rage
In Jose’s truck, he was twice your age
You screamed “True love will never die”
And “Why’d you get divorced”, your mom and I

6) I told you back then, Jose was a bum
That he’d disappear when the hard times come
Now he’s left you here with a child
But you’re welcome to come home for a while

[CHORUS]

ALT-CHORUSt
Don’t let the hurt from one moment
  Overshadow all the rest
Open your heart, as I’ve opened mine
  To forgiveness, for-give-ness
  For-give-ness, for-give-ness

Geneva Waltz            © Rich Eilbert

1) There’s a land far away / In the white granite hills
I’d stay there all day / If I had my will
Where the trees stand up tall / On the green mountainside
Hear the loon’s sunset call / ‘Cross the waters so wide

CHORUS
Geneva Waltz / Your old-fashioned ways
Are healing my heart / As the violins play
  Three-quarter time / I hear the calls
Come join the dance / Geneva Waltz|

2) The strum of guitars / Beckons to me
Each voice finds a part / In pure harmony
The earth brings me peace / The music it heals
In joyous release / Now and for real

[CHORUS]

3) And though I know / It’s just for a while
The pleasures bestowed / Still make me smile
And when I return / Don’t think it strange
If you can discern / My spirit has changed

[CHORUS]
Join in the dance / Geneva Waltz  For-give-ness, for-give-ness

A 100% of Nothing            © Rich Eilbert

1) I’m standing in line waiting my turn
To take a ticket at the counter from the government urn
I have four mouths to feed, one more on the way
And the money’s running low on these welfare checks
And the factory’s shut down,  what do you expect
I can’t stay here

2) Came to this town back in ‘89
They had me doing detail on the assembly line
But that was then,  this is now
And the mercury lamps in the fixtures overhead
They make everything blue and I’m getting ready
To leave this town

CHORUS-1
I’ll stop by the tavern on my way home, have a beer or two
Tell the boys I’ll miss ‘em, I’ll be sure to visit, next time I’m thru
And I should be forgiven ‘cause I can’t make a living in a town this small
And 100% of nothing, ain’t worth nothing at all

3) The American Dream, that’s what I supposed
But I couldn’t make the mortgage, then the bank foreclosed
Now the pickup is packed, we’re ready to roll
My brother down in Phoenix owns a little retreat
Says we can stay there, till I’m back on my feet
God bless his soul

CHORUS-2
I’ll stop by the diner for coffee, have a cup or two
Tell the gals I’ll miss ‘em, I’ll be sure to kiss ‘em, next time I’m thru
And I should be forgiven ‘cause I can’t make a living in a town this small
And 100% of nothing, ain’t worth nothing at all

BRIDGE
The trains don’t stop in this town like yesterday
As I stare into the distance, I see rusty rails fade away
  Fading away

CHORUS-3
I’ll stop by the white church on my way out, say a prayer or two
Tell the priest I’ll miss him, keep the holy vision, ‘til next time I’m thru
And I should be forgiven ‘cause I can’t make a living in a town this small
And 100% of nothing, ain’t worth nothing at all

Yeah, I should be forgiven ‘cause I can’t make a living in a town this small
And 100% of nothing, ain’t worth nothing at all

Know the Way            © Rich Eilbert

1) When the angel calls me to rest
I’ll know the way, I’ll know the way
‘Cause my soul has been put to the test
And I know the way, I know the way

CHORUS-1
I know the way of righteousness
  That leads to glory, forevermore
I will walk in the light of my savior
Until I reach, that hallowed shore

2) As we gather here in communion
We know the way, we’ll know the way
On a path toward eternal reunion
We know the way, we know the way

CHORUS-2
We know the way of righteousness
  That leads to glory, forevermore
We will walk in the light of our savior
Until we reach, that hallowed shore

3) Though our weary steps grow shorter
We know the way, we know the way
Leaving a trail for our sons and our daughters
So they’ll know the way, they’ll know the way

CHORUS-3
They’ll know the way of righteousness
  That leads to glory, forevermore
They will walk in the light of their savior
Until they reach, that hallowed shore

We know the way of righteousness
  That leads to glory, forevermore
We will walk in the light of our savior
Until we reach, that hallowed shore
Until we reach, that hallowed shore

Waste not, want not / That’s my creed
You never know / What you might need

  For a rainy day__
I know I have to throw some things away

5) Dust covered crystals / A hand-wound watch
Rusted canisters / That once held scotch

6) Bamboo curtains / And buckets of paint
A concrete statue / Of a Buddhist saint

[PRE-CHORUS]
CHORUS-3
When my house is so full of clutter
That I’m living in the gutter
And the newsprint saved for fire
Has piled 8-feet tall or higher
  And that warped ping-pong table
  Stacked with fiber-optic cable
  And the 3-legged chair
Atop a dented keg of beer
  And the Donald Duck umbrella
I keep somewhere in the cellar
  For a rainy day__
I’ve decided to throw it all away

Yes-sir, mmm-hmm / Well, except maybe my__:
7) High school trophies / And Davy Crockett hat
My dad’s pocket knife / And that Little League bat

8) And an autograph book / From summer camp
And psychedelic posters / And that groovy lava lamp

9) And a Ouija board / And a Ronald Reagan mask
And some 5-inch floppies / And a chemistry flask

And the Donald Duck umbrella
I keep somewhere in the cellar
For a rainy day__
We just might see some raindrops today

Hard to Miss This Broken Heart            © Rich Eilbert

1) There was a time when roses would climb
on the fence-rail in our yard
There was a time when your laughter came easy
and work didn’t seem so hard
Before that dark cloud settled down in our house
and you stayed out late at night
There’s dozens of reasons, but I’ll never understand

CHORUS
Since you left me, my life has been empty
   My whole world fell apart
Now I make my home in, a township called Lonesome
It’s hard to miss this broken heart

2) This town’s so small that a tree couldn’t fall
      without everyone knowing the news
This town’s so small that I felt like a clown
when you went off, on the loose
You cheated on me, now the home crowd sees
      I was second best
I’m all alone, with no place, to hide

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE
They say love will come again, at the right time
  Don’t they know I’m drowning in my tears, I need a life-line

(CHORUS) & TAG
It’s hard to miss this broken heart

Destination Georgia            © Rich Eilbert

1) Brown leaves were falling, winter, coming on
Those cold nights in Boston, made me want to move along

2) Took a jet plane southbound, with a carry-on guitar
And a notebook full of mem’ries, of where I’ve been so far

CHORUS
  Destination Georgia, hickory covered hills
Grass fields with horses, and birds on windowsills
What brings us together, is a simple country song
Destination Georgia, glad you came along

3) You drove from the seashore, thru groves with Spanish moss
And though I’d never met you, our paths were meant to cross

4) We talked about the sunshine, we talked about the rain
And the guiding hand of fortune, that-will bring us back again

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE
No we won’t forget the ones who’ve gone before
And for those to come, we’ll open up the door

(CHORUS) & TAG
What brings us together / By the Grace that’s been passed on
_Destination Georgia / I’m glad,  you came,  along

Can’t Let You Go            © Rich Eilbert

1) The first time I saw you, running ‘round the track
I stared at you and you were staring back
I scrawled your name, I called you up
You laugh a lot, I soaked it up
And I felt, my spirit, soar  oh-oh

CHORUS
I love you beyond rhyme or reason
You broke my heart into bits and pieces
But I, can’t let, you go
The words come back, clearly spoken
Of promises made, and promises broken
But I’m, still standing, at your door

2) Next time I saw you, was-down at the tennis courts
In a green tee shirt and your white, tennis shorts
Your French braided hair, sunburned skin
You smiled at me, I drank it in
You came back to my room, and we kissed, and kissed some more

BRIDGE-1
We built our home, and shared a life
  Intertwined, like man and wife
Thought you’d be true, I never knew
  What lay in store, oh-oh

(CHORUS)

3) The last time I saw you on the sidewalk joggin’ by
I stared at you, but I couldn’t catch your eye
So I called your name, and you turned around
You forced a smile, and then looked down
And I felt, like I’d fallen, through the floor

BRIDGE-2
My friends tell me, to bail out fast
To let you go, forget the past
But I can’t face, that empty place
  Down at the core, oh-oh

(CHORUS)
  Can’t let you go (x2)

November Snow            © Rich Eilbert

CHORUS
  November snow, is blowing through
  Summer's gone, you've proved untrue
(Now) As winter nears, and flowers fade
November snow, drove my love away

1) Your love turned cold, when I needed you
I can't believe, those days are through
You've gone back South, to your old friend
I never thought, these days would end

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
White fields lay before me, as the geese take to the sky
I never felt so lonely, all I do is cry

(CHORUS)

Lost Along the Way            © Rich Eilbert

1) I wish that I had roots, but I travel this world, alone
Like a windblown seed that’s fallen, on a stone
The love I thought I had, slipped like ashes, thru my hands
Lived in-a fairy-tale castle, built on the shifting sands

CHORUS
  Mother, oh mother
I got lost, along the way
I need your guidance, and your kindness, today
Mother, I got lost along the way

2) Who can I turn to, now, that you’re gone
Those fickle friends I had, not one, could I count on
All of California’s gold can’t buy one minute, heaven knows
And I laid upon your tombstone, one black rose

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE
I wander in circles, starless, is the night
Show me mercy, goddess, shine your light

3) The past recedes, thru a turned-round, telescope
The figures grow smaller, and reaching them, beyond all hope
I must move ahead, but I’m frozen, in my track
The harder I try -the more I find, I’m slipping back

(CHORUS), & TAG
Mother, I got lost along the way

My Home in Caroline            © Rich Eilbert

1) Been out West, to the wild Pacific shores
Seen the Rocky Mountains in the spring
Stood in the heartlands in fields of golden corn
But I return like a bird on the wing

CHORUS
I just got back this morning, with one thing on my mind
Miss the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the girl I left behind
Down many roads I traveled, but never did I find
A place that suits me better, than my home in Caroline

2) Spent lonely nights in big-city bars
Had a few more drinks than I should
Driving those Interstates at 3 in the morn
To see you again, feels so good

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE
  Caroline you’re calling me home
  Every time that I'm gone
It lifts, my heart, to see those Smoky hills
Of the place where I was born

ALT-CHORUS
I just got back this morning, I'm feeling mighty fine
To see the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the girl I left behind
Down many roads I traveled, but never did I find
A place that suits me better, than my home in Caroline

TAG
Down many roads I traveled, but never did I find
A place that suits me better, than my home in Caroline

Till You Went Away            © Rich Eilbert

1) You left in a hurry, was the month of May
Daffodils were blooming, in the window bay
You packed your van, right to the top
Your first destination was a coffee shop
You promised to call, from a motel that night
Let me know, that you were alright
But I never heard, a single word

CHORUS
I never missed the sun, till I saw rain
Never wished to laugh, till I felt pain
That’s the way things go,  these days
I never tasted food, till I went hungry
Always crazy ‘bout the city, till you moved up-country
Never fell in love, till you went away

2) So I phoned your mom, in Michigan
Said “I was wondering, if you can
Tell me where, your daughter’s gone”
She said you left a message, to pass on
You didn’t have the heart, to say goodbye
You were giving your old marriage, one last try
For the children, we couldn’t meet again

(CHORUS)

ALT-CHORUS
You left in a hurry, why so fast
Now I find myself, drifting through the past
Give me one more day, one last smile
I make crazy circles, like a moth in the light
And I’m wishing you, would hold me tight
One more time, for a little while

(CHORUS), & TAG
Never fell in love, till you went away

It’s Over Now            © Rich Eilbert

1) I can see for miles / Across the open plains
But I won't see those smiles / Upon your face again
I've come to understand
It's over now,  we can't get back,  to what we had

2) Just like an old photograph / Faded from the light
A heart that's been broke in half / Can't be set back right
It's out of my hands
It's over now,  over now,  over now

BRIDGE
Good times / Have all come and gone
Sad to say, the time has come
  To travel on

3) Promise not to cry / Till I'm outside of the door
Maybe one day I'll stop by / If I'm not hurting anymore
But I've got to take the chance
It's over now.  we can't get back,  to what we had

Sullivan County Runaway Cattle Band            © Rich Eilbert

1) Laura and Bob raised a herd, at the Honey Tree Farm
A Highland breed, stood shoulder high, weighed half a ton
When the money got tight, they started to fight, just couldn’t agree
So they took it to court, the judge handed down, a divorce decree

CHORUS
Laura got the herd, Bob got the barn
Fence couldn’t keep them bovines from movin’ on
Now they run loose through the woods and pastureland
The neighbors complain but ain’t no one can lay a hand
On the Sullivan County runaway cattle band

2) Old Sam Jordan knew a thing or two, about catching steers
He’d been pullin’ in strays, in the Granite State, for 50 years
Him and his pal, built a corral, with a trap-door gate
Brought in bales of hay, on a cold winter day, was sure-fire bait

(CHORUS)

3) Old man Jordan, checked the corral, at the break of light
The hay was all gone, but there sure, wasn’t no cows in sight
The garden was muck, and the pickup truck, showed a hoofmark dent
To this very day, nobody knows, where them cattle went

BRIDGE
But on full-moon nights in spring, the townsfolk say
They hear faint moos, from newborn calves, far away

(CHORUS) & TAG
That Sullivan County runaway cattle band

Eighteen Rubber Tires            © Rich Eilbert

1) I got 18 rubber tires
I got 18 rolling wheels
I’ve been gone since, early this morning
Here’s how it feels, here’s how it feels
Yes I miss my, wife and family
And I miss my, Mandy dear
I come from Stockton, California
I’m on my way to Santa Clare

CHORUS
And I know, next year, I must be in old Jerusalem
But I’ve got a 1000 miles to go
Rubber tires keep carrying me onward
Down the only road I know

2) As I travel down this highway
I meet people of all kinds
Some will tell their, whole life story
Some just leave, their past behind
There’s a desert, all around me
The Sierras, lie far ahead
Many miles must, still be travelled
Before I rest, my weary head

(CHORUS) & TAG
Down the only road I know
